Isolation and Alcohol Use Disorder

Alcoholism is by far the largest substance use issue in New Mexico and was only made much worse by the isolated nature of the pandemic. The goal of this piece was to explore the relationship between social isolation and alcohol use disorder. This piece was fairly research-heavy and I was able to identify and interview a representative from a New Mexico non-profit that could help provide specific insights into local issues.

A Guide for Mothers of Children Struggling with Substance Use Disorders

This piece required research into the specific substance use issues faced by the people of Cohasset, a fairly affluent suburb close to Boston. The main goal of this piece was to provide actionable, real-world advice to people who are in the heartbreaking position of watching their adult child struggle with addiction. Through research and outreach, I was able to get in touch with an author who specializes in these issues and was able to provide insight and practical advice.

Self Medication in the Hospitality Industry

This piece was written at the height of the pandemic when the hospitality industry was at its most dire. For this piece, I was tasked with remotely identifying and securing an interview with a Portland-area therapist with experience treating people in the hospitality industry. This also required a fair amount of research to add credibility to my claims, which I coordinated with our creative team to create easily-shareable infographics that adhere to Serenity Lane's brand guidelines.
